Meet the Team: Georgina Marshall, Sales Office Manager

George Marshall

The Wilks team would like to extend a warm welcome to new starter, the Sales Office Manager, Georgina Marshall.

Tell us about your background. What did you do before joining the Wilks team?

I have a background in office and customer service-based roles, all loosely linked to maritime in one way or another.

My career started in search and rescue at the Thames Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Walton-on-the-Naze. I started as a Watch Assistant before progressing to Watch Officer and finally Watch Manager. I worked here for 13 years.

I then went on to work at Essex Outdoors, an outdoor education centre delivering residential and day-based programmes. My role here involved writing bespoke activity programmes for clients packed with activities including kayaking, coastal discovery, and adventure courses.

Most recently, you could find me selling a wide range of delicious seafood to the public and high-end restaurants at Colchester Oyster Fishery Ltd. I was based just across the river from Tollesbury on Mersea Island, where I live with my family.

What does your role as Sales Office Manager involve?

I work alongside Charlotte and Debbie as a Sales Office Manager, advising customers on our vast product range and the best options available for their boats.

With the factory next door to the sales office, I can process an order and see it go through the entire manufacturing process before leaving our stores department.

So far, I have enjoyed speaking to a wide range of customers, from large boatbuilders to the public, hearing about their latest projects and answering any queries they have.

What do you do in your spare time?

On holidays and weekends, I enjoy short trips and nights away on our boat, PELICAN, a converted ship’s lifeboat. I also enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding and occasional sailing on a brig.

I have lived on Mersea Island most of my life and enjoy soaking in the location by taking my dog on long walks along the beach and sea wall.

During lockdown, I took up lino cutting and printing alongside my other hobby of creating mosaic pictures and coasters. However, in ‘normal times’ you can find me enjoying a drink on the yacht club lawn in the summer!
