Celebrating Derek: 47 Remarkable Years of Dedication and Service!
How many people can say they’ve been in the same job for nearly 5 decades? Not many, but Derek Shakespeare certainly can. After an incredible 47-year career, Derek is hanging up his boots and heading into retirement.
The Early Days
Derek kicked off his career on 19th September 1977, joining the team under the Government Youth Opportunity Programme (YOP). The scheme was designed to provide 16- and 17-year-olds with valuable work experience and training, opening doors for young people to gain a foothold in the working world. Little did anyone know back then that Derek’s first steps into the workplace would lead to an astounding 47 years of dedication, loyalty, and hard work.
While many people move between roles and companies throughout their careers, Derek remained steadfast, growing within the organisation and adapting to every change that came his way.
Rising Through the Ranks
Over the years, Derek steadily worked his way up through the ranks. His journey culminated in the role of Stores Manager. In 2019, Derek decided to step back from his managerial role, but continued to embody the values of hard work and loyalty, leaving an unforgettable mark on the company’s culture.
Over Derek’s 47 years, the business has changed dramatically – from its size and location to the products and reach. Through it all, Derek has been a constant presence, helping the company adapt and grow while being a reliable, and has become a welcome and familiar face over the years to the whole team at Flexiteek/Wilks.
A Farewell to Remember
After 47 years of service, such a milestone couldn’t go uncelebrated. The team at Flexiteek/Wilks came together to ensure Derek’s retirement was marked in a meaningful way. A special team lunch was organised to celebrate Derek’s incredible career and contributions. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on all the memories, milestones, and hardwork that defined Derek’s time at the company.
