Carrot Cake, Cupcakes and Lucy the Lamb
Lucy the lemon lamb, salted caramel cupcakes as well as Nutella filled cookies were just a few of the brilliant bakes donated to the Wilks bake sale, raising a wonderful £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
On Wednesday 19th June, the Wilks team came together to take part in Cupcake Day, a baking event raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The Alzheimer’s Society
The Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and also supports people living with dementia today.
In the average time, it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK develop dementia. Their Cupcake Day raises both awareness and vital funds for the charity.
The Wilks Bake Off
All the brilliant homemade bakes for the Cupcake Day entered the highly competitive Wilks Bake Off competition. This was judged by Wilks very own Marie Berry.
Marie tasted a whole array of sweet treats with the help of Joint Managing Directors Chris and Scott Berry.
It was a tough choice, but the trio was delighted to crown coiler, Jack O’Dwyer as this year’s Star Baker. He was awarded the much sought-after Star Baker trophy for his “sponge cake thing”.
Then Toolroom Manager, Steve Waldie, came a close second with delectable chocolate drizzled banana cake.
Stores Manager, Darren Stephens took third place with his professional looking carrot cake.
These top three cakes were raffled off to raise money. As well as bake sale of the other cakes and cupcakes donated by the Wilks team, family and friends.
Joint Managing Director, Chris Berry, commented “Yet again; we were blown away with the generosity and creativity of the Wilks team. The Alzheimer’s Society is a fantastic charity, and we consequently feel very proud to have played our part.”
